Are you stressed?
Yeah, me neither :)
I'm beyond stressed! My stress level has been through the roof over the past couple of weeks. I have dealt with some family illness, the (hopeful) sale of my home and subsequent search for a new home, the two kids and their everyday craziness, and even some stress from my wife's job.
Is this any more than what any of you deal with regularly. Probably not. I guess I just haven't dealt with it as well as others do.
So, can you imagine what program got sent to the back burner.
That's right, I have not only completely fallen off the weight-loss wagon, but I think the wheels have run over me. I am in full comfort food mode. As I've told you before, I am an emotional eater, and the emotion is in control right now.
So, I am hoping to start up where I left off. Now that the time has changed and the days are longer, I'm hoping to add some serious exercise to the routine. I told my wife this morning that it's time to get serious again, like I was in the beginning.
I need to take some of my own advice. This is about getting healthy and living longer, so it's up to me to make that happen.
Baby steps!

Best of luck to you. Remember one thing... if the earth wasn't created in just one day, what makes you think you can do all of this at once? Take what you can handle, and put a "to do" sticker on the rest.
If you stress too much, your body will overproduce cortisol (the stress hormone) which causes human beings to hold on to calories and fat in their mid section. Do some research on it. It's quite fascinating.
Try some exercises that can help you cope with stress... yoga is a great way to go, but if you need an aggressive outlet, I highly suggest kickboxing or just using a punching bag. It feels great to work off the extra stress by hitting something, without actually hurting anyone. ;)
Been following you since the first of the year, and I'm still at the same weight I was in January. Be SO proud of the work you are doing...inspiring others and beginning that journey of taking good care of yourself! I have GOT to get up and start exercising...need to lose 15 pounds by October. Printed out the cartoon to post on my fridge. Thanks again, Doug. Keep up the great work!
In six weeks I've lost 20 lbs. I stepped on the scale first thing this morning and found myself at my goal weight. My wife helps me count calories and has shown me "real" portion sizes, and I've been walking on my breaks and lunches. I wear a pedometer which I have become addicted to. At first reaching the 10,000 steps seemed like a crazy thing to do, but now I set goals for each day and have blown right past 10,000 per day. Good luck to you all as you continue your journey.
